'Print Cart' Project

A project developed during lock down as a necessity and desire to continue creating art and re-establish a print practice, without access to traditional screen print equipment.

The project involved the design, construction and development of a cart which could house the various processes required for screen-printing in a compact and contained unit. The cart covers emulsion coating (with dark room lighting), drying cupboard and screens storage, exposure unit, a separate wash station, ink, squeegee and equipment storage, print table with custom vacuum table. All equipment is self designed and built. 

Although the lockdown was what perpetuated this projects it was initially sparked by the void that I found existed between ‘hobbyist’ to ‘professional equipment’, the options for screen-printing appeared to be basic unreliable and clumsy online instructions constructed from various house hold items OR expensive, large, heavy and clunky pieces of equipment which was not only out of budget but not suitable to an individual in my circumstances. This project has resulted in a completely portable and compact print shop, something I plan to take advantage of with moving workshop installs, interactive experiences and live printing.

This is an ongoing project, something I am keen to elaborate on with reference to the constraints of this design, as well as various additions to further the usefulness of this object.
